2025 Challenge Details:

  • Date: Thursday, June 12, 2025

  • Location: St. Matthew High School - 6550 Billberry Dr., Orleans

  • Time: 6-9pm (doors open at 5:30)

  • Registration fee: $15/dancer. (See Registration info below)

  • Show tickets on Eventbrite: $17/person. (See Tickets info below)

  • Momentum Dance Challenge is open to all high schools in all school boards in Ottawa.

How it works:

  • Dance teams will come together to challenge each other as the Top Performing dance team in Ottawa.

  • Teams will raise money for their school through ticket sales. All of the proceeds from your ticket sales belong to you!

  • All routines must be choreographed by students. Choreography is not limited to any style, however we encourage high-energy routines!

  • The performances will be evaluated by Ottawa dance professionals.

  • The top performing team will receive a plaque as well as a workshop taught by one of Ottawa’s leading hip hop choreographers.

  • A major highlight of the event will be performances by one of Ottawa’s top local professional dance companies. TBD

Registration (Google Form):

  • Each school will enter one dance team.

  • A second team can be registered providing all of the dancers are separate from team 1.

  • All dancers on your team must attend the same high school.

  • All teams must be represented by a member of the school faculty or school approved adult.

  • An updated roster list must be provided if it has been modified from the original. 

MUSIC:

  • Maximum of 7 minutes for all performances.

  • All music must be the best quality possible for us to give your audience the best possible experience.

  • Finalize your mix and send it to us as soon as possible. We need it ahead of time to equalize the levels and plan the night. No music will be accepted after May 17, 2024.

  • Contact MDC organizers if you need help with your mix. We might be able to help.

2025 CHOREOGRAPHY CHALLENGE

CanCon!

This year we Challenge dancers to create their set using as much Canadian Content as possible. We have chosen this theme to encourage more support for our Canadian artists, and send you on a beautiful audio journey of discovery. In order to validate your CanCon, we ask that you provide us with the title and artist for each song in your set. Go Canada!

Are YOU up to the Challenge?

Tickets info:

  • $17 on Eventbrite. Sales start March 4 and close at 5pm May 23.

  • Each team will receive 50 on-line tickets. Once registered, a ticket purchase option will be opened for your school on Eventbrite.

  • If less than 10 teams are registered by the registration closing date, the balance of seats available will be distributed among registered schools.

  • Tickets purchased on the night of the event will be directly invested into next year's event.

  • A cheque will be issued to your teacher after the event.

SHOW NIGHT:

  • A full itinerary will be sent to you ahead of time.

  • 2:30-5:00pm – Stage run through. 15-20 minutes per team.

    • Performers must check in upon arrival.

  • 5:00pm - Cast meeting. All performers must be present for the cast meeting.

    5:30pm - Doors open.

    • No dancers in the cafetorium during this time.

  • 6:00 PM - Show start

    • Hosts opens the show and introduces teams.

  • 9:30 – Wrap up and Clean up
